N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, emphasized the necessity for India to develop sovereign AI capabilities to avoid digital colonization and ensure that AI understands the country's diverse languages and cultures. Speaking at Mumbai Tech Week, he highlighted the importance of independent infrastructure and research to safeguard data, advocating for India to be a creator of AI rather than a consumer. The Centre's IndiaAI mission, with a budget of INR 10,037 Cr, aims to build domestic large language models to support this initiative.
